Aaron Myers

Aaron Myers, Class of 2005

Aaron Myers is originally from Goodlow, Texas where Myers found his passion for performing at an early age while playing music in the church, eventually choosing the piano as his instrument of choice. He is a graduate of Kerens High School. He graduated from Navarro College in 2005. Aaron is a dedicated champion for Mental Health and LGBTQI Rights, as witnessed by his contributions to many organizations and fierce advocacy. As part of his activism, he chairs the Board of Directors for the Capitol Hill Jazz Foundation and serves as Interim President & CEO of Crittenton Services of Greater Washington. Aaron is a member of the board of directors for CTE Vision Foundation and Covenant Full Potential Development Center.

During the COVID-19 Pandemic, he led the DMV Music Stakeholders cohort as they shared resources, offered relief, and continuously campaign for community needs to help strengthen and preserve Washington’s music network.  In 2023, Aaron was named Executive Director of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, the state art agency for the District of Columbia. His credits include 4 albums: “Leo Rising,” “The Lion’s Den,” “The Pride Album,” and “Snowing in Vegas.” He is also the author of two books, “Bi The Way: Tall Tales and Lessons Learned” and “White People Talking to White People: Broaching the Topic of Race with Your White Friends.” As a voting member with the Recording Academy, he serves on Washington, D.C.’s Recording Academy Board of Governors and hosted “Jazz Stories” on 89.3FM in Washington, D.C. from 2018 to 2022. He has served as Minister of Music for Covenant Baptist United Church of Christ. Awarded Best Jazz Artist by the International Music and Entertainment Awards in 2016, he was awarded the Wammie Award for Advocacy 2019 & 2020, Best Jazz Artist & Best Jazz Song by the Wammies in 2022, and was named a “Jazz Hero” by the Jazz Journalist Association in 2021. In 2023, Aaron was inducted into the Navarro College Distinguished Alumni.

Aaron expresses that it is never lost on him the role and impact Navarro College had towards his success, stewardship of the creative arts, and societal contributions: “I learned the sense of community, sense of pride in the journey of exploration, I learned the meaning of chosen family. Navarro was patient as I searched for my identity.”

Aaron has an upcoming performance this Friday, April 25th, in his residing city of Washington, D.C. For more information about Aaron and his adventures, advocacy, and art, please visit www.aaron2.me.
